The dead keys for acute accent (é, á, ó, etc.) and tilde (ñ, ã, etc.) do not work on macOS. They clash with Alt key shortcuts.
Steps to reproduce:
- open Inkscape (on macOS)
- Create a text box on the canvas
- Use the dead key combination to type a character with an acute accent (e.g. hold alt+e, then press E to type "é")
- Use the dead key combination to type a character with a tilde (e.g. hold alt+n, then press N to type "ñ")
What happened?
- A hidden, Edit menu (other than the native macOS menu) is displayed when typing alt + E.
- Similarly, a non-native Extensions menu is displayed when typing alt + N.
As a side note, the other dead keys on the US keyboard layout appear to work just fine.
What should have happened?
The characters é or ñ should have appeared in the text box.
Inkscape Version and Operating System:
- Inkscape Version: 1.0alpha2 863a58d
- Operating System: macOS
- Operating System version: 10.13
