SUGGESTION: Ability to make and edit colour pallettes within Inkscape
I adore Inkscape! I've even made some little videos about it on Youtube, and it's my favorite vector editor by far!
I would love a way to be able to create and edit color palettes (the bar at the bottom of the screen) within Inkscape itself. I know you can use the auto function to see all the colours in the active document, but they disappear if you start a new one.
I would love a way to have a bunch of (for example) set brand colours set up so as soon as I open the document they are there ready to use. Or the colours my laser cutter uses for different functions, as another example.
I know I can create a document with objects of all the colours I want in it and then save is as a gimp palette format from Inkscape and then track down the palette folder and place it there, but this process is a bit cumbersome, I always forget how to find that folder and when it saves the gimp palette file the colours are all in a weird order (weird in a human/usability sense, I'm sure there is a computer kind of logic behind them). And I then have to edit that document and work out what which RGB codes are which colours, so I can re-order them and it's a bit of a tricky/ time consuming process when you have more than a couple of colours. Then if I ever want to add or change a colour, I need to track down that folder again.
It seems like there's some desire for a function like this (not just from me) as shortly after I asked if the above process was the best way to make a palette, someone else asked how to make a custom palette on the Inkscape discord, and a bit of discussion ensued.
Here's basically an excerpt from that discussion/ what I would adore: I could right click the pallet, or click the burger menu to the side of it and "create new palette" and then drag colours into the blank palette, maybe from the fill and stroke dialogue, or objects in the workspace (it would grab the fill colour). Or I could right click the pallette and "add new colour" and a new dialogue would open with a colour picker sort of interface (akin to the fill and stroke menu) and maybe an additional feild for a title for the colour (like how you can append a colour code in the gimp pallet file to give it a title currently). Then when we have a colours we could delete them via a right-click option. Or edit them, again via a right click option which would bring up the colour picker dialogue again. I also would love if I could rearrange the colour swatches in the palette by clicking and dragging them.
Hope that makes sense, and that it sounds appealing! It would make a works of difference to me! If there's someone in particular I should be supporting on patreon who would do that kinda thing, I'd love to! Just let me know who.
Thanks again for all your incredible work either way. <3
