Click to select objects now requires ctrl (tiling wms)

Summary:

After upgrading to Inkscape 1.1, I can no longer select objects by clicking on them. If I hold down Ctrl when I click, the object is selected as normal. This is making Inkscape unusable for me. The same is true for moving object. Previously, a selected object could be moved by clicking and dragging it. Now I need to hold down Ctrl in order to get it moving (and then release Ctrl so it's not constrained to only move horizontally or vertically).

Steps to reproduce:

1. Open inkscape
2. Press "r"
3. Draw a new rectangle
4. Draw a second rectangle
5. Press "s"
6. Click on the first rectangle to try and select it
7. Curse
8. Hold down Ctrl and click the rectangle
9. Release Ctrl. Click and drag the rectangle to try to move it
10. Curse again
11. Hold down Ctrl, click and drag the rectangle. Release Ctrl.

What happened?

Nothing, without Ctrl key being pressed :-(

What should have happened?

Rectangle should have been selected and moved
