Text tool font dropdown freezes computer while loading

Summary:

... Selecting the font from the font list causes Inkscape to crash and the computer system also crashes and buttons will not work for almost a minute. Nothing will work during that time.

Steps to reproduce:

• open Inkscape
• Select the font from the list on the top left

What happened?

The computer freezes for almost a minute and the computer will not respond to functions like switch workspaces, mouse control, minimize or any other computer function until the freezing stops.

What should have happened?

Load the font list so I can select the font
