Copy-paste a selection of nodes
Steps to reproduce:
- open Inkscape
- want to extract or duplicate parts of a path
What happened?
- in current Inkscape versions, we need to duplicate the path, then delete what we don't need, just to get a copy of part of a path. Sometimes, Path > Break apart will also work.
- Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V currently copy-pastes the full path, even when only a couple nodes are selected
What should have happened?
-
when I select multiple nodes, I should be able to copy and paste them:
- into an existing path that is selected with the node tool
- as a separate object
-
This is a bit tricky, because there are many cases where it needs to be decided what to do:
- pasting on an object that cannot accept it (e.g. paste on a circle or an image)
- copying from a path with a path effect (which might or might not become invalid on the new path)
- what to do if the selected nodes are not contingent? Connect with straight lines? Disallow? Make them disconnected (<- my favourite option currently)?
- what to do if a single node is selected?
- probably more corner cases...
