Inkscape 1.02, Save as PDF, Embed fonts: Adobe reader fails to open the PDF file
Summary:
After installing Inkscape 1.02 (release), I have noticed that when I export a PDF (= File -> Save As), the resulting file does not open in Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader does not crash, but refuses to open the file, reporting a random error number, one of 114 117 135 . I know that this is rather a bug report for Adobe :-)
Adobe community fora suggest that this has to do with embedded fonts, and indeed, if I disable "Embed fonts" and instead "Convert text to paths", the resulting file is okay for Acrobat Reader.
Steps to reproduce:
Open Inkscape with a clean sheet. Add a text string or two. Try highlighting a block inside the string and make it bold. If this still doesn't trigger an error (which it often does already), try inserting some non-ASCII characters, such as a couple "accuted" glyphs from the ISO-LATIN2 charset or cs-CZ locale. But you don't really need to go as far as that.
Sample attachments:
I'm attaching two files: an SVG source and a PDF export, containing just a single string "a".
Originally I have spotted the problem on quite a complex sketch, which I'd prefer not to disclose - but I've been able to reproduce this within minutes starting from an empty file and 2-3 strings, reliably.
Version Info:
Adobe reader version : Adobe Acrobat Reader DC - Czech (20.013.20074)
Inkscape: 1.0.2 (e86c870879, 2021-01-15, custom) 64bit MSI, tested in Czech and English user interface skins
OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit (build 7601 SP1) Czech
I've been using a row of previous Inkscape releases (0.48, 0.92 all four, 1.0, 1.01) and I don't recall ever facing this problem... I tend to consider this a regression in 1.02 :-)
