Join nodes not working

Steps to reproduce:

open Inkscape
go to edit path by nodes
select first path
select second path
highlight both
click join nodes

What happened?

paths are still not joined.

What should have happened?

expect the 2 unjoined paths are joined and connected.

Inkscape Version and Operating System:

Inkscape Version: 0.92.4
Operating System: Windwos 10 64 bit
Operating System version: 1709join_nodes_fail.16299.1029
