It would be really cool to have a perspective grid, supporting 1, 2, or 3-point perspective. The UI would be a menu item: "create perspective grid", which would pop up a dialog asking how many points. Then the user would click "ok", and their cursor would change to crosshairs or something (to remind users that they're creating a grid).

njh was working on some non-rect grid types, don't know if they were perspective or not. You might ask him if he has some code to resurrect.

bumping priority -- there have been several requests to abuse the Guides system to allow guides in all directions but a perspective grid is the right solution to that problem, much more flexible than overloading guides with ideas they were never designed for

The next logical step after the addition of the axonometric grid is to add perspective grids. Here is a proposal for how such grids should behave along with some perl code that generates prototype grids.

As a temporary measure, the perl code could be used as a start for encoding an effect that generates a perspective grid. Snapping to the grid could be done by turning on snapping to objects.
