Or maybe this is the intended result?

Also happens for other shapes.

It's probably not intended per-se, but consistent with how other controls work (i.e. modifying rectangle width/height with the rectangle tool does not rescale the gradient either).

Fixing all those cases would probably be a nice feature improvement, not sure how much effort would be required.

Migrator's Notes:

  • Migrated for one simple reason: what is the correct behaviour? Not even the devs know. The docs certainly don't mention anything in regards.
  • FWIW, this is correct behaviour, not unlike Scribus' or InDesign's handling of images in a frame.
  • I purposely left this issue unlabeled as (I feel) it seems inaccurate labeling DialogPaint servers and/or ToolNode. All authorised personnel may label as they see fit.
  • Related?: inkscape#1370
  • Will close immediately upon an authoritative answer to point # 1.
