Paste Style doesn't keep relative gradient position
Migrated from https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/166715 (from 2005-07-19)
and the almost indecipherable https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/165515 (from 2004-02-22)
Summary:
When pasting a style with a gradient, the gradient is mapped from the original object's position and not the target object.
Steps to reproduce:
- create an object with a gradient fill to your liking
- copy object
- create a second object
- Paste Style to the second object
What happened?
The gradient keep the document absolute coordinates position, instead of the object relative one
What should have happened?
The pasted style should contain a gradient with relative coordinates.

This is not a bug. It's designed to be that way.

This design choice can be considered a usability bug, since it's totally counter-intuitive. When the user pastes the "style" on a new element he expects that the result is an object with the same style of the referenced. And for the user/artist the "style" refers to the appearance, not the internals of the SVG file.
