Cut Path deforms path when cutting

Reproduce:

1. load the attached cut-path-bug2.svg in inkscape.
2. CTRL-A to select both wheel and rectangle
3. CTRL-ALT-/ to execute path cut operation.
4. compare result with the right-hand side of screenshot.png

The wheel-with-spokes is one path. When using the Path -> Cut Path operation with a rectangle overlapping the outer rim of the wheel, a quarter of the circumfere flips around and points inwards.

This was part of a large drawing, I copied that part on a new sheet. But cannot reduce any further. E.g. removing the center hole or another inner segment "fixes" the issue.

Any idea what could be wrong with this drawing? I cannot reproduce this from scratch unfortunately.

inkscape-trunk 20181017 shows the same issue.
