Serial connection to plot no longer opens
Summary:
I have been successfully using the export to plot over serial extension in Ubuntu for a few months now. After an upgrade to 1.0 I am no longer able to use the feature. I now get the error that the port can not be opened
Steps to reproduce:
Setup
add dialout to group ( sudo usermod -a -G dialout $USER ).
add serial package from https://github.com/pyserial/pyserial/releases to extensions folder.
Resart Ubuntu to get the dialout activated.
Usage
Create a design with paths.
Configure Serial port settings in Export-plot extension.
Export to plot over serial in Inkscape 1.0 ( you do not need to be connected to a plotter, ANY serial device will work for a test eg, an Arduino board, USB to serial converter etc.).
What happened?
There is an error that the serial port can not be opened. To check that the rest of the setup was working, I sent some small test commands over the serial connection using CoolTerm. these worked without issue. I am sure that the port is correctly configured and the hardware side is working.
What should have happened?
Should plot.
Version Info:
- Inkscape Version: 1.0
- Operating System: Ubuntu
- Operating System version:19.04
If I downgrade to 0.92 I am able to get a working connection without any changes to my settings. Also, I do not understand why Pyserial is not included with the Ubuntu version of Inkscape as mentioned here for MacOS inkscape#183 (closed)
EDIT
I have just noticed that the Pre-Processes File Save as in the Export Extension is also not working.
