easy feature: disable auto search in Layers tab

Thanks everyone for inkscape 1.0.
Every time I switch to a different layer and I want to change the tool with a shortcut the Layers Tab catch my input to search for it, same happens when I want to switch temporary to the selection mode with the space-bar.
Indeed I must switch to the layer, 'remember' to press ESC, then press the tool shortcut.
Maybe there is a better goal for this behavior that I'm not aware, otherwise the process would be more intuitive and faster if this search function is disabled.
There could be a specific icon if one need to search in the layer list or it could be dependent on the mouse/tool position.
Same applies for to the Object List and personally I would prefer this auto search disabled.
eg. When I'm doing bucket fill I need often to select/hide objects and all the time I forget to press this extra ESC keystroke for each operation.
