Illustrator shape builder alternative

Whenever there's talk about Inkscape and A***e Illustrator, people make sure to say, "ohh, but Inkscape doens't have something like the shape builder tool in Illustrator!", and Shape builder really is amazing, and I think it wouldn't be too complicated to create it in Inkscape, since we already have the very amazing "Hold Alt and then select", which could just be paired with some path operations to achieve the "Shape builder" effect from Illustrator.

I think it would be worth it, other ideas are always welcome.
