Apple developer membership renewal
current situation
Producing signed and notarized releases for macOS requires membership in Apple's developer program. This membership costs 99 € per year. The first year I paid for this membership out of my own pocket; you can consider this a donation to the project. My membership expires on the 8th of June.
board decision required
I see three possible choices.
-
The board decides to keep me in charge of producing our macOS releases. This will again cost 99 €, but this time I'd like the project to pay for it.
-
The board decides to put someone else in charge. That person will need to become a member in Apple's developer program (pricing stays the same) and take over the release process.
-
Software can still be distributed and run without signing/notarization at the expense of usability/comfort. Users will see scary warnings about unidentified developers and will need to take extra steps to actually run the program, but they can still run it.
timeline
I've set the due date to the 5th of June where the next board meeting is supposed to take place.
