Feature Request: Isometric shapes and grid
Migrated from https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/170875
Summary:
- New shapes/symbols/stencils in isometric view (like Dia or Visio)
- Addition of an isometric grid option (also like Dia or Visio)
The Idea (original text, edited):
These are drawing shapes like prisms, cylinders, and pipelines that work on an isometric grid. Sizing and snap connection points would be useful to be able to hook them together.
See http://www.geocities.com/piping_isometrics/
It would also be nice to have a way for users to define new kinds of stencils, even if it requires hand-editing xml.
Additional Information/Comments:
- after various serves and returns regarding the usefulness/implemetation, Horkana-users wrote on 2007-01-27:
Support for the notion of stencils or shapes is more likely to improve but someone making a specific stencil set is not very likely.
Not sure I particulary want to leave this open. Someone claiming this report might discourage me from closing it.
Migrator's Notes:
-
Horkana-users argues during the initial debate (2005) that the request is outside Inkscape's intended scope, defining Inkscape as an vector illustration application for artists and graphic designers. I have always considered Inkscape as such and (if I'm not mistaken) was originally intended as such. Since Inkscape's Sodipodi roots until now, CAD, technical illustration and business graphics capabilites have been grafted on along the way to varying degrees of success.

Needed addition? Feature creep? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
