Impossible to export to file with arbitrary extension

Steps to reproduce:

inkscape --export-filename=.pdf/fig.pdf.redo.tmp --export-type=pdf fig.svg

What happened?

Inkscape printed "InkFileExportCmd::do_export: Ignoring extension of export filename (tmp) as it does not match the current export type (pdf)." and the file was exported to .pdf/fig.pdf.redo.pdf.

What should have happened?

The file should be exported to .pdf/fig.pdf.redo.tmp, exactly as requested. In my case, the output file name is dictated by the build system and I cannot choose it arbitrarily. Moreover, using different file name from what is requested by the user can lead to overwriting of important data.

Inkscape Version and Operating System:

  • Inkscape Version: Inkscape 1.0rc1 (09960d6f05, 2020-04-09)
