cannot perform boolean operation

Steps to reproduce:

Inkscape Tutorial Logos By Nick "Vector Wood Sign Logo" @3:55 mark - select blue object and black - path difference should create a boarder around the plank ( tested on Current stable version: 0.92.5 and operation works)

...error: one of the objects is not a path cannot perform boolean operation

What should have happened?

... create a boarder
