Drag and drop in Objects Dialog or XML Editor: "drop preview" worse than in 0.92

Steps to reproduce:

  • open Inkscape
  • create some groups and objects
  • drag and drop them using the Objects dialog

What happened?

In 0.92.4, there are two types of "drop previews":

  1. If the mouse is close to the vertical center of another object, the border of that object becomes visible and is dashed. This means that the dragged object is added as sub-element of the highlighted object.
  2. Else, a single black solid horizontal line is shown at the position of insertion, the length of which indicates the level of insertion. This makes it possible to accurately control whether to append the object to a group or drop it after, but not inside the group.

In 1.0, both drop previews are solid green lines, spanning the entire width of the object editor. The functionality is lost.

  • You can't see the green line very well if it is below a selected (blue) element. This means that it is sometimes not possible to decide between cases 1 and 2. A dashed line would help with that.
  • Since the line always spans the entire width, it is impossible to see whether the objects editor would insert after or within a group, for example.

What should have happened?

The "drop preview" has the same functionality as 0.92.4.
