Text-in-a-shape doesn't paste

Steps to reproduce:

• open Inkscape
• use the text tool to draw a rectangle of text
• type some text
• copy the text
• try to paste it

What happened?

The text doesn't paste. Nothing shows up, but in the Edit menu it says "Undo Paste".

What should have happened?

A copy of the text should've shown up.

Inkscape Version and Operating System:
