Checkbox for color managed view clickable in menu, but not in bottom-right corner of canvas

Steps to reproduce:

  • open Inkscape
  • View > Color managed View: click checkbox - checkbox is now checked
  • at the same time, the icon with the same functionality in the bottom-right corner of the canvas is greyed out (before and after checking the checkbox)
  • now activate the icon in the bottom-right corner by going to Edit > Preferences > Input/Output > Color management and selecting a device profile for proofing (e.g. 'Iso Coated v3 300% (ECI)') and selecting the option to simulate device colors on screen.
  • see how it becomes clickable
  • now click it
  • see how it becomes unclickable

What should have happened?

Checkbox and icon should accurately reflect the availability of the option and should work in unison.

Quote from the manual:

Inkscape supports base ICC profile functionality through the use of LittleCMS. Setting up color management can be done under the Color management section in the Inkscape Preferences dialog. You can declare multiple ICC profiles for a document in the Color Management tab of the Document Properties dialog. If everything is setup properly the “Color Managed View” can be toggled on/off via View → icon Color-managed View or by clicking on the icon icon in the lower right corner of the window. This will give a better representation of what you can expect to see in the final rendering of the drawing as well as mark out-of-gamut colors. Note, profiles internal to a bitmap are not used. A complete discussion of this topic is beyond the scope of this book.
