New document window is extremely short; document is zoomed out

Inkscape 1.4.2, but I noticed it in 1.4.1 and earlier.

Mac OS 15.6.1 (Sequoia).

The issue is just that the containing window is very short at startup, like might be 600px wide but 30 tall. The new document is zoomed to fit it, so is tiny. Resizing the window and zooming to 100% are therefore unwelcome chores at every startup.

Prior to 1.4.1, Inkscape used to start up filling a reasonable portion of the screen with a document at 100% zoom.
