Export path grows with folders duplicated

Summary:

Inkscape adds folders to export file destination on each selection of a different object.

Steps to reproduce:

  • open Inkscape
  • create drawing with multiple paths, objects and layers. Including a rectangle that acts as the background.
  • export background rectangle
  • make various adjustments to foreground objects
  • Select background rectangle again and export
  • Rinse and repeat as many times as needed

What happened?

Looking at the output folder I found Inkscape had created several folders of the same name within each other. The deepest I got was

...!Projects\RCDB!WIP\Fuji\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\exp\name.png

Where the file is saved and open from .\Fuji and I'm exporting to the first exp folder (.\Fuji\exp)

I created the first exp folder myself, the rest is inkscapes doing. It took my a while to figure out whats going on, but it appears that inkscape is creating a new \exp\ each time I either return selection to the background rect, or I select any element. So far I havn't figured out a way to recreate the bug in controlled conditions, so apologies for the vague description.

What should have happened?

Inkscape should not create new folders without the users instructions to do so.
