Every year, somewhere around the third Saturday of September, hackers, free software users and open source adepts celebrate Software Freedom Day. For this event, HSBXL organises a day of interesting talks on the merits, uses and principles of free and open source software, as well as adjacent topics such as privacy, open data and security. Join us for a great day of talks with a nice meal at the end and drinks and snacks throughout the day. The event is free as in freedom, so please pay your drinks, but we can flash a Linux ISO on your USB flashdrive if you'd like!

## call for participation
## Talks

Of course, a conference without speakers is just a bunch of people staring at each other, so we're looking for people who'd like to give a talk about free software.
This year's (loose) theme is **"Organizing with FOSS."** That could mean for example:
We have of course some interesting talks planned , cause without that we would just be some people staring at eatch other

- How you use FOSS to organize an event or community
- Using free software to keep things organized in your personal life or work
- Keeping a pile of data organized with free tools
Talks will start at 13:00

That being said, this theme is of course **just a suggestion**, if you have another topic you're passionate about, submissions on **any FOSS-related** subject are welcome.
the talks , in no paticular order, are as follows

Talk slots: 25 or 45 minutes, scheduled throughout the afternoon
Submission deadline: August 20th, 2026. (via contact@hsbxl.be)
- **Organising awareness about digital sovereignty** - Jurgen (45 min)
- **OpenStreetMap: how to help map your surroundings** - Kai (25 min)
- **Own your router, ditch the Proximus Internet Box** - Alexander Mikhailian (45 min)
- **eID** - AltF4
- **Framasoft as a framework for FOSS alternatives** - Luna (45 min)
- **How to organise a power grid** - Stephan
- **Show and tell** - you?

We'll also have a communal dinner after the talks. Speakers eat for free, so consider that extra motivation to submit.

Questions? Reach out any time via email at contact@hsbxl.be or on Matrix: https://matrix.to/#/#hsbxl:matrix.org

Want to give a talk? Send your application to contact@hsbxl.be with the following details:

- Title
- Short summary
- Any prerequisites (for workshops)
- Preferred duration (25min or 45min)
- Availability during the day / any timeslot preferences
- Name and email for contact
- Are you okay with the talk being streamed and/or recorded?

Looking forward hearing from you!
## Food
After the talks we will have a comunal meal, with of course vegetarian/vegan options.
The contribution for the meal will be 15 euro/person
please check back here for the registration, since it helps with the planning of the food.

## Stream

We highly recomend comming in person , but if you can't make it, you will be able to follow the live stream (for the speakers who agree). The link to the stream will be here.

## Talk Schedule

Talks will start at 13:00.

Come back later - save the date for now.
