To make full use of Lamprey, a Custom Search Engine is necessary. This is a service provided by Google which allows up to 10000 queries per day.
This page will you guide you through setting one up and configuring Lamprey to make use of it.
The Custom Search Engine website
Start by visiting Google's Custom Search Engine. If you do not have a Google account or aren't logged in, you'll see the following page:
Sign in to Custom Search Engine button on the top right, to either sign in or create an account.
Creating a Custom Search Engine
Once you are signed in, you'll be directed to create a Custom Search Engine.
In the "Sites to search" field, write
www.test.com. This field needs to be filled, but what is in it is unimportant.
In the "Name of the search engine" field give it the name you'll want to identify your CSE by.
Once you're done, click
Broadening searches to the entire web
You have now created a Custom Search Engine which is limited to the `www.test.com``` domain. We'll want to widen it to the entire web so we can perform our searches properly. To do this, start by going to the control panel:
Scroll down until you find the
Sites to search section:
Then, select and delete the
www.test.com site. You'll also want to tick the
Search the entire web option.
It should look like this by the end:
Getting the Search Engine ID
Scrolling up from
Sites to search section, you'll find the
Search Engine ID section. You'll need it for Lamprey's settings.
Getting an API key
Scroll down further into
Custom Search JSON API section and select
On the page that comes up, select
Get a key:
You'll then be given an API key you need for Lamprey's settings.
Claiming the US$300 Google credit
Please note that you'll need a valid credit card to do this.
First of all, head to https://console.cloud.google.com/freetrial/signup/.
Once you're done, you'll see the following:
This should now let you use your 10000 queries per day while you have credit with Google. Your actual card won't be used unless you decide to upgrade your account.
