Release the project under the terms of the GPL

Apply a license to the project and clearly communicate, both in source and the README, which license that is.

The project previously didn't contain a license statement making it, as far as I understand software legal stuff, entirely mine and mine alone. It should have been GPL all along but back then I wasn't aware of the consequences.
