The busybox dhcp client (udcpc) works without any problems. However, as pmOS (postmarketos-base to be precise) depends on networkmanager/dhcpcd now, the busybox ifup function no longer uses udhcpc but dhcpcd. Therefore, afaik, there is no easy way to use udhcpc instead of dhcpcd.https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/49LuneOS is broken (LuneOS patches not rebased on qt5-qtwebengine for 5.10.1)2023-12-13T20:25:16ZpostmarketOS BotLuneOS is broken (LuneOS patches not rebased on qt5-qtwebengine for 5.10.1)*Created by: ollieparanoid*

LuneOS UI is packaged in [postmarketOS](https://postmarketos.org). Thanks to the work from @magmastonealex and @PureTryOut, [we had the QT 5.9 version of `qt5-qtwebengine` working](https://postmarketos.org/blog/2017/12/31/219-days-of-postmarketOS/#luneos-ui) with patches required for LuneOS on top. However, Alpine Linux (which postmarketOS is based on) switched to QT 5.10.1 now, which means our QT packages must be upgraded as well.
Unfortunately the patches from LuneOS don't apply anymore. I found patches for QT 5.10.0 [here](https://github.com/webOS-ports/meta-webos-ports/tree/master/meta-luneui/recipes-qt/qt5/qtwebengine), but they don't work with 5.10.1 either.
To make the repository build script go through again, I'll move `qt5-qtwebengine` from `aports/main` to `aports/luna` and disable the `luna` folder from compiling for now. In the meantime I've learned that ncopa is looking into providing `qt5-qtwebengine` in Alpine Linux (without LuneOS patches though, but it's still great) and he said the musl specific patches we have are helpful.
@shr-project, @ericblade, @Tofee, @Herrie82:
* Do you have a patchset for QT 5.10.1 as well, or do you have plans to create one?
* Would it be possible at some point in the future to have LuneOS UI working without patching QT?

> on pmos when I replace chrony with busybox ntp, I found it didn't work
My understanding is, that for some reason the network isn't available at this point, and therefore chrony runs into a 10 second timeout and busybox ntp just fails. Chrony seems to be the most secure NTP client out there (see pmbootstrap#588), so if possible I think we should stick with that.
Proposal:
* Change the [`chrony` aport](https://github.com/alpinelinux/aports/tree/master/main/chrony) to add "offline" after each server in the `/etc/chrony.conf` file (see [Arch Wiki](https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Chrony#Configuration))
* that way it won't try to reach the NTP servers, so boot should not be blocked
* Set up a NetworkManager dispatcher to notify chrony when we're online (see [networkmanager-dispatcher-chrony](https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/networkmanager-dispatcher-chrony/))

* Copy the `aports/device/device-samsung-espresso10` to `aports/device/device-samsung-espresso7`
* Adjust the name in the APKBUILD and deviceinfo
* Adjust the screen resolution in the deviceinfo
* Make sure it still depends on `linux-samsung-espresso10` by *not* changing the `depends=...` line in the APKBUILD
* Run `pmbootstrap init` and select `samsung-espresso7` as device
* Follow the installation instructions from the Samsung Espresso 10 in the wiki (see its device page)
* If it does not work, you might need to change the bootloader offsets by analyzing a known working boot.img file: `pmbootstrap bootimg_analyze path/to/known/working/boot.img`
* modify your `deviceinfo` file (in the aport) with the offsets that command prints
* `pmbootstrap checksum device-samsung-espresso7`
* try againhttps://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/41CI does not always build changed packages2023-12-13T20:25:15ZOliver SmithCI does not always build changed packagesMerge request pmbootstrap!1611 contributes a new device, with its typical `linux-` and `device-` package.

I used the current pmbootstrap `master` and compiled the kernels in this environment rather than checking out old revisions of pmbootstrap. So it seems to be the kernel itself and not likely `pmbootstrap` environment.
It does boot kernel 4.16 compiled with `vexpress_defconfig`. I think it's some config in `config-postmarketos-stable.armhf`. No configs were manually changed between 4.13.12 and 4.14. The differences are all a result of the autogenerated config going from 4.13 to 4.14. So it's possibly some new default maybe.https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/39(samsung-kylessopen) Xorg output distorted and nearly looks like the output o...2023-12-13T20:25:15ZGhost User(samsung-kylessopen) Xorg output distorted and nearly looks like the output of cat /dev/urandom > /dev/fb0As the title describes. I've luckily been able to pull the Xorg log as well as the output of logread. This issue is so far over my head that I unfortunately can't seem to go any further with it. I'm hoping you guys can help.
I modified the xinitrc file from within /etc/postmarketos-ui and commented out exec hildon-desktop and then killed X. Interestingly, the noisy image appears for a split second but then disappears when Xorg restarts itself. This leads me to believe that hildon isn't the culprit and it's more likely to be something very involved with the way Xorg works. I then edited /etc/profile and removed the for loop so I could startx manually. I still notice the image. After messing with various configurations, I can't figure out what causes this.

I've applied patch to busybox package from AlpineLinux repository and here is a quick review, of what it can do.
It requires an image as base and with -t parameter we can overlay text over image, like so:
![IMG_20180815](/uploads/7e7bf4e44858c76adac2239b4a3984bf/IMG_20180815.jpg)
I presume that default text colour is white, but there's an issue with colours on my test device.
There are a few formatting options available: set font size, colour, set starting position for text (in percentage) and nudge text a bit. All text is written in single string with formatting commands before words or sentences.
![IMG_20180816](/uploads/d045cd887cba90c5ad08f5b478d3892b/IMG_20180816.jpg)
As you can see, when text wraps it is still rendered on the same line, but `\n` works to manually insert line break.
While result is not as beautiful as using prebuilt splash screens, it is lightweight and allows pmOS to display dynamic messages.
I'm attaching patch if someone would like to work on it further or add it to postmarketOS as it is.

Thank you for reporting this issue. Some follow up questions:
* Which model of the S4 do you have?
* Did you flash the kernel *and* rootfs?
* How did you flash the rootfs (with `pmbootstrap flasher flash_rootfs`,
recovery zip, ...?)
* Which UI have you selected?
* What's the output of `logread` after logging in with SSH?https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/31Will graphics hardware acceleration ever be achieved on the nokia n9002023-12-13T20:25:14ZAngel VegaWill graphics hardware acceleration ever be achieved on the nokia n900Sorry for such an indecent question.Sorry for such an indecent question.https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/30Make mkinitfs fail harder when the dtb is missing on mainline kernels2023-12-13T20:25:14ZMartijn Braammartijn@brixit.nlMake mkinitfs fail harder when the dtb is missing on mainline kernelsSee @z3ntu's note at https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/commit/63f921fbacdec8e5b60cff8c04ac3f7e183ac9ba#note_101525375

Currently postmarketos-mkinitfs only shows a NOTE: in the build when the specified .dtb for the device can't be found. It currently doesn't trow an fatal exception since that would break devices that have both an upstream and downstream kernel.
It would be better if postmarketos-mkinitfs did throw an fatal error on missing .dtb files _only_ if the current kernel is an upstream kernel so downstream kernels still would work and upstream kernel development is slightly easier.
I don't see a quick way to see which folder contained the original kernel package from the mkinitfs script so it's probably easiest to only show the error if the initramfs name contains `postmarketos`https://gitlab.com/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/issues/28binary packages builder: stuck at kwin2023-12-13T20:25:14ZOliver Smithbinary packages builder: stuck at kwinFor some reason, the binary package builder is stuck at kwin right now, even building it for `x86_64` does not run through.

The CPU usage is at 0%, so it isn't doing anything.
I'm looking into this with the highest priority right now to unblock the binary repository.
People can use the binary packages of the previous plasma mobile version by running:
```
(when you want to have the latest version again, do the same, except for `git checkout master` as last line)
I find IRC as a medium really useless and a waste of time, and furthermore, once an issue gets solved, no one else will ever find the solution. Nothing gets indexed, nothing is searchable.
GitLab is too formal for many basic questions. And there is no searchable database for all questions: Everything is in its own repo.
For example, I want to get some info on the N900 back camera support and the the progress of libcmtspeech data?
-- where should I send that query?
1) Gitlab: No its too formal.
a) and I have to find the specific repository for the specific question (UGH).
ex: https://gitlab.com/libcmtspeechdata/libcmtspeechdata
2) Send it to IRC and hope that Pavel sees it.
a) - If I don't know who is involved with the project, we have play the cat and mouse game of @ing the important
people.
- If I don't know who to @, this burdens other to @ people they think might know the question.
- This puts a further burden on the person who the question is posed to as well, as he has to keep up with lists of
text that do not apply to him, and that don't matter.
- I also have to look through list of text that DONT APPLY to my question, or area of interest. I have to hunt and
peck to find where they replied to my question.
- Replies might not come immediately, and it gets even worse when I have to scroll up through, and read a bunch of
stuff I don't care about to find if anyone replied.
This whole workflow is really ridiculous, and really turns me off from the project. I would like some sort of forum.
have categories like:
pmbootstrap...
off-topic...
Devices:
n900:
hardware..
software..
Maybe I don't understand the current workflow.
Ideally I would have like to make a post in the n900 forum, called like libcmtspeech, where we could have a centralized discussion on it and the progress. Same idea with the camera module (in the hardware subforum).
Please add a forum though.
