Docs site "look and feel" updates
We want to have a modern documentation site that reflects GitLab as an enterprise software company. In the 18.1 milestone (and potential future milestones), we are going to do some work to improve the look and feel of the docs site. ## Areas of focus The primary areas of focus are: - **Homepage** A blend between the marketing site and the product. - **Overall look and feel** Styles, spacing/margins, font sizes, format of tabs, alerts, videos, code blocks, etc. - **Accessibility** - **Dark mode** (See [exploration MR](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/technical-writing/docs-gitlab-com/-/merge_requests/531)) - **Navigation** - **Tables** - **Videos and walkthroughs** (Including [Developer Relations walkthroughs](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/505063) and [youtube videos](https://docs.gitlab.com/development/documentation/styleguide/#link-to-video).) - **Footer** If time/stretch goals: - [**Deprecations page**](https://docs.gitlab.com/update/deprecations/) - [**Feature flags**](https://docs.gitlab.com/development/documentation/feature_flags/) ## Design ideas [❈ Figma file](https://www.figma.com/design/8SyoJ7QPtz7CWhOtq5hAcz/%F0%9F%A4%94-Miocene-s-ideas-exploration?node-id=2858-15050&t=DaelPXjinR6gMSFo-0) | lg | md | md | sm | sm | | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | ------ | | ![home_page___lg](/uploads/5e691712ed347833dd65296f3d9b0134/home_page___lg.png) | ![home_page___md](/uploads/fda4ffa8b5c5de26322c9775d884584e/home_page___md.png) | ![home_page___md-1](/uploads/e079a7e8f5c841ad64c6621bcda6637c/home_page___md-1.png) | ![home_page___sm](/uploads/f5cc1657dcab526f6dece700fd4826b5/home_page___sm.png) | ![Group_26](/uploads/f80b9e173fb32ce2118f458dbf43c8c6/Group_26.png) | | ![lg](/uploads/6e253044ca85fe559e69c5ba95f8e2c7/lg.png) | ![md-1](/uploads/f1acd99222e9ba82a1f38f076173c6c2/md-1.png) | ![md](/uploads/c1292af3e6974c449129ebf378ffd953/md.png) | ![sm](/uploads/fbb6266de71ab53ff2657fb13e6097c9/sm.png) | ![Group_25](/uploads/4b3623f3e305b9f0bf25612703c70489/Group_25.png) | ## Other resources/links - [Proposal for using numbers in our tasks](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/technical-writing/docs-gitlab-com/-/issues/203). - [Discussion of fixed widths](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/technical-writing/docs-gitlab-com/-/issues/257). - [Adding a feedback mechanism to the footer](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/technical-writing/docs-gitlab-com/-/issues/202). - There is a contributors.gitlab.com site and we've discussed [publishing the "Contribute" content there](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/developer-relations/contributor-success/contributors-gitlab-com/-/issues/139). - Our [four main topic types](https://docs.gitlab.com/development/documentation/topic_types/) are concept, task, reference, and troubleshooting.
