Enhanced List View (Consolidated List + Saved Views)
## Summary **Enhanced List View** is the foundation for our broader "[Improved Data Filtering and Visualization](https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/-/epics/5516)" initiative. Learnings and patterns established here will inform subsequent phases, which will extend these capabilities to other views such as boards and roadmaps. The saved views, view configuration and grouping/subgrouping functionality developed in this work will eventually be implemented across all visualization types, creating a consistent experience throughout GitLab's planning tools. This epic represents our first step toward a cohesive, intuitive planning experience that scales from individual contributor needs to executive visibility requirements, all while maintaining GitLab's commitment to being a single application for the entire DevOps lifecycle. This initial phase focuses on modernizing and enhancing the list view experience through: consolidating the listing view to display all work items, reducing navigation burden for users and introducing saved views. ## Business Value GitLab users currently struggle with disconnected views, limited organization options, and inefficient workflows when managing work items across projects and groups. This leads to reduced productivity, difficulty tracking strategic initiatives, and challenges in communicating status to stakeholders. By enhancing our list view experience, we'll deliver significant improvements to these core planning workflows, resulting in: - **Reduced context switching** between different list types and views - **Improved visibility** across work hierarchies without losing context - **Increased efficiency** in daily planning tasks - **Enhanced collaboration** through shared, consistent views - **Better stakeholder alignment** with customized filtering and organization ## Key Components | Component | Description | User Problems Solved | |-----------|-------------|----------------------| | **Consolidated List View** | Create a unified list experience that combines epics, issues, and other work items in a single, coherent view, removing the need to navigate between separate epic and issue list pages. | • Eliminates the burden of switching between different list views for different work item types
• Reduces cognitive load when trying to understand relationships between epics and issues
• Simplifies the mental model of work management in GitLab | | **Saved Views** | Enable users to save and return to customized list configurations, including filters, sort order, and display options, making routine checks more efficient. | • Eliminates repetitive filter setup for common workflows
• Ensures consistency in how teams view and assess work
• Facilitates standardized reporting and status checks
• Provides quick access to specific subsets of work without manual configuration | ## [Main Documentation](https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/plan-stage/product-planning/-/wikis/Home/Engineering/CurrentProjects/Work-Items---Planning-Views) ## GA Rollout of Enhanced List View (Work items list + Saved Views) * [x] [Primary Release Post Item](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/www-gitlab-com/-/merge_requests/142811) (DRI: @mmacfarlane) * [x] [Blog Post](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-com/marketing/brand-product-marketing/content-strategy-and-ops/blog/-/work_items/501) (DRI: @mmacfarlane with review by @gweaver and @nickbrandt) * [x] [Feedback Issue Created and Tracked](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/work_items/590689) (DRIs: @mmacfarlane and @nickbrandt) * [x] Note: Make sure to Close other Feedback Issues upon GA to centralize all feedback in one place.
