### Release notes With this release, you can now view the entire hierarchy lineage of the work item (tasks, OKRs) instead of just the immediate parent of the viewing record with the [ancestry widget](https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/architecture/blueprints/work_items/#widget-types-updating).  ## Summary In the new [work items framework](https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/-/epics/6033) we will create two distinct widgets related to record ancestry: (1) Ancestry Widget and (2) [Parent Widget](https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/-/epics/11198). This epic tracks work for the **Ancestry Widget**. Each of these widgets will provide information about the viewing record's ancestry but we anticipate each of the two widgets will be referenced and utilized for slightly different workflows. ## Initial Designs Initial designs for these widgets can be found in [#414539](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/414539). Please note that final designs are **pending [solution validation](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/ux-research/-/issues/2486)**. #### Dependent Work As per [this thread](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/issues/417206#note_1508613632), the work items header will need to be restructured based on the potential to not display the Ancestry Widget when no parent is present.
