Because Gitaly is considered a **non-marketable** category, category maturity cannot be used to describe our priorities. Therefore, the aim of this epic is to provide area for Product, Engineering, and any other interested parties to view where we're headed within the Gitaly group. Please feel free to contribute to this top level epic, or even better, collaborate with us on the individual epics or issues contained within. The epics attached here are organized in the following manner. This is always open to discussion, but please refrain from moving sub-epics and issues around without consulting with the Gitaly team. If you would like to propose changes, feel free to reach out to the product manager (@mjwood) or a member of the [Gitaly Team](https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/engineering/development/dev/gitaly/). Generally, Gitaly is not end-user facing. Therefore, before suggesting changes, please feel free to familiarize yourself with the [Target Audience](https://about.gitlab.com/direction/create/gitaly/#target-audience) for Gitaly. ## In Progress This sub-epic will hold all work that is currently In Progress for the Gitaly team. These items align with our strategic vision outlined by our [what's next and why](https://about.gitlab.com/direction/create/gitaly/#whats-next--why). As a team, we try to stay focused to deliver value to our customers regularly. Therefore we attempt to keep our in progress efforts to items which can be delivered within the next two milestones. ## Next Steps This sub-epic will hold work which that is being actively planned to follow the in progress efforts. The goal is to include work that has not been started, but is expected to begin within the next couple of milestones. These initiatives align closely with near term direction of [where we are headed](https://about.gitlab.com/direction/create/gitaly/#where-we-are-headed). ## On the Horizon This sub-epic will hold work that we know we need to tackle, but we are either still iterating towards an agreed upon solution, or is not currently scheduled within the next three milestones due to prioritization. These initiatives should complete the "[where we are headed](https://about.gitlab.com/direction/create/gitaly/#where-we-are-headed)" direction items. ## Incubation This sub-epic holds all of our ideas which are not mature enough to be considered actionable yet. We are actively researching ways to improve Gitaly, and therefore we like to ensure we have a good number of ideas waiting for additional information, inputs, or thoughts to make prioritize them further.
