Star Dashboards MVC
### Problem to solve Let's introduce a way to access the most accessed/requested dashboards in the dashboard dropdown menu by allowing users to "star" their most used dashboards and showing them first in the dashboard dropdown. Grafana has this star button ![Screen_Shot_2020-02-17_at_15.57.15](/uploads/0ae795fbce6e31f4caeb67098bd76299/Screen_Shot_2020-02-17_at_15.57.15.png) and the dashboard list changes depending on the user ### Intended users * [Devon (DevOps Engineer)](https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/marketing/product-marketing/roles-personas/#devon-devops-engineer) * [Sidney (Systems Administrator)](https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/marketing/product-marketing/roles-personas/#sidney-systems-administrator) ### Further details Some of the challenges that I can see coming up from this feature are * Figure out how to store the favorite dashboards from an user and display them on the frontend * How to store an user's favorite dashboards ### Proposal * The user can star and unstar the dashboard by clicking on the star button. Starred dashboards appear at the top of the dashboards list in the dropdown and have the star icon. * Starred dashboards will be displayed alphabetically. | | | | ------ | ------ | | Dashboard with a "Star" button | ![Dashboard](/uploads/e93f236521f1b84829267a7281965cc1/Dashboard.png) | | Star dashboard - hover | ![Star_dashboard_hover](/uploads/1d755385a043b0bf3bfc082fe0cc69ef/Star_dashboard_hover.png) | | Starred dashboard | ![Starred_dashboard](/uploads/6557ddc9c3627de3be88e0bf34e9a682/Starred_dashboard.png) | | Unstar dashboard - hover | ![Unstar_dashboard_hover](/uploads/dfc61abce47adf3439143e276cac3122/Unstar_dashboard_hover.png) | | Starred dashboards dropdown | ![Starred_dashboards_dropdown](/uploads/796c28aab205528f3529c86370f70072/Starred_dashboards_dropdown.png) | ### Permissions and Security <!-- What permissions are required to perform the described actions? Are they consistent with the existing permissions as documented for users, groups, and projects as appropriate? Is the proposed behavior consistent between the UI, API, and other access methods (e.g. email replies)?--> ### Documentation <!-- See the Feature Change Documentation Workflow https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/development/documentation/feature-change-workflow.html Add all known Documentation Requirements here, per https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/development/documentation/feature-change-workflow.html#documentation-requirements If this feature requires changing permissions, this document https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/user/permissions.html must be updated accordingly. --> ### Availability & Testing <!-- This section needs to be retained and filled in during the workflow planning breakdown phase of this feature proposal, if not earlier. What risks does this change pose to our availability? How might it affect the quality of the product? What additional test coverage or changes to tests will be needed? Will it require cross-browser testing? Please list the test areas (unit, integration and end-to-end) that needs to be added or updated to ensure that this feature will work as intended. Please use the list below as guidance. * Unit test changes * Integration test changes * End-to-end test change See the test engineering planning process and reach out to your counterpart Software Engineer in Test for assistance: https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/engineering/quality/test-engineering/#test-planning --> ### What does success look like, and how can we measure that? <!-- Define both the success metrics and acceptance criteria. Note that success metrics indicate the desired business outcomes, while acceptance criteria indicate when the solution is working correctly. If there is no way to measure success, link to an issue that will implement a way to measure this. --> ### What is the type of buyer? <!-- Which leads to: in which enterprise tier should this feature go?
