## How do lifecycle policies ship?
In two phases. The full model is in [ADR-010: Data retention](https://handbook.gitlab.com/handbook/engineering/architecture/design-documents/artifact_registry/decisions/010_data_retention/).
- **Phase 1 (P0):** soft delete and the trash, cascade delete and garbage collection. Every delete is safe, and deletes free storage.
- **Phase 2 (P1):** rule-based policies, such as keep the last N or expire after N days. Every policy delete goes through phase 1.
Until phase 2 ships, customers clean up with listing filters and bulk delete.
## Which formats come first?
RPM, Debian and Go (P0), then Generic, PyPI and NuGet (P1). RPM and Debian are what containers are built from. Telstra and Delta both need RPM, Debian and Go to migrate fully.
## How will customers migrate?
Slowly, through remote repositories. A customer adds their old registry as a remote behind a virtual repository. Artifacts come across when a client pulls them. When they're done, they convert the remote to hosted ([#630577](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/work_items/630577)) and turn the old registry off. Conversion is a P1 fast follow.
Bulk import tools are P2.
## Who else do we depend on?
These teams own work that AC needs for GA. Their issues aren't children of this epic.
- **Fulfillment:** billing, provisioning and the SM true-up. The true-up needs SM call-home telemetry, which isn't built yet.
- **Runner:** `CI_JOB_TOKEN` for `image:` pulls ([#630573](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/work_items/630573)).
- **Organizations:** Organization support on SM and Dedicated ([&22427](https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/-/work_items/22427)).
- **Security:** the dependency firewall engine and scanners ([&22126](https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-org/-/work_items/22126)).
- **Application Lifecycle Management:** defines and reviews the OAK pattern ([#630564](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-/work_items/630564)).
## What isn't in GA?
OPA, artifact signing, attestations, workspaces, quarantine, storage tiering, advanced webhooks, cost forecasting and predictive AI. See the "Awaiting customer demand" and "Not planned" sections of ga-scope.md.
