Increase initial GitLab Duo feature usage

# Context In order to ultimately drive successful activation of GitLab Duo we need to focus on driving initial GitLab Duo feature usage. During this stage of adoption, we know the following tasks are completed by ‘end-users’ (likely Developers) * Install extension in local IDE * Authenticate with GitLab from the IDE * Discover and use features To make an impact, we believe that we need to focus on: * Increasing discoverability of GitLab Duo features in the context of existing workflows * Create clear documentation and getting started guides for each persona * Improve ‘general knowledge’ of Duo (i.e. general end-user onboarding) ## Measures of Success * An increase to GitLab Duo Activation * GitLab Duo Activation Metric is TBD but it should be something time bound and likely first AI feature usage / seat assignment. * Reduce time to GitLab Duo Activation # Hypotheses * End-users are unaware when they are granted access to AI features * End-users are unaware what AI features they have access to * End-users are not discovering what Duo can do. “Blank slate problem” * End-users are unaware when there are issues with configuration or AI features * End-users need to build trust with the outputs generated by AI features ## Evidence This issue is intended to collect various evidence, assets, and qual/quant data to help us ground ourselves in the problem space, then determine a forward plan for how we'll go about solving the biggest opportunity areas in this space. ### Quantitative - WIP (currently blocked) [Time to AI feature usage metric (Gitlab.com)](https://gitlab.com/gitlab-data/product-analytics/-/issues/2362) - Rough estimate of at least one Code Suggestion event in AI Gateway / Seat assignment is 65% (not perfect data) https://gitlab.com/gitlab-data/product-analytics/-/issues/2365#note_2267386142 ### Qualitative * The UX research team is conducting research now around https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/ux-research/-/issues/3293+ * Will summarize findings as calls progress! ##  > [!important] > This page may contain information related to upcoming products, features and functionality. > It is important to note that the information presented is for informational purposes only, so please do not rely on the information for purchasing or planning purposes. > Just like with all projects, the items mentioned on the page are subject to change or delay, and the development, release, and timing of any products, features, or functionality remain at the sole discretion of GitLab Inc.
