# Background This epic is a sub-epic of the [Maintainership Working Group Epic](https://gitlab.com/groups/gitlab-com/-/epics/1808). This is the sub epic related to the **Improve the Trainee Maintainer process to make the process more efficient** exit criteria. Completing this epic will close out the related exit criteria. **Exit Criteria DRI:** @alexives # Purpose The purpose of this Epic is to do the following: 1. Examine if changes need to be made to the onboarding process to determine if some roles should automatically start the Trainee Maintainer process. 1.
