Open Canvas Document

intro_poster

Feel free to criticize, ask and suggest new ideas. The previous canvas we had was too general and the scope was very unrealistic. This one tries to focus on what we can actually deliver now that is still relevant and necessary based on our experiences with other open source projects.

Problems

  1. Lack of awareness about the potential of open source workflows to solve contepmporary problems and reach sustainable development goals.

  2. Limited scaling model for open hardware projects documentation and decentralized design contributions.

Solutions

Use a common workflow and tool, based on giT+github

Provide and teach others a standard, scalable and flexible workflow for design communities

Resources

  • Decent internet speed and computer
  • Git and github knowledge
  • Proper documentation guidelines and best practices
  • Specific tools for collaboration like FreeCad, Open Scad, etc.
  • Design Documents that can be read like drawings of parts in a pdf or image format.
  • Community leads, project leads and contributors

Unique Value Proposition

We provide and teach how to use open design documentation and workflow standards using github as a main tool. This allows us to create design repositories in a scalable, concurrent and collective fashion. We work with our users incorporating their feedback coming from replicating the specific designs they have used.

Key metrics

  • num. of contributions per month
  • num. of mature repositories.
  • num. of design replications and fabrications
  • num. of Project leads
  • High documentation and workflow standards

User Profiles

  • Fabricators and producers
  • manufacturing businesses
