Pressing the CMD key while double-clicking removes selection immediately after making it
- iTerm2 version: 3.3.0beta4
- OS version: 10.14.3
Description: I've been missing a lot of selections to copy from iTerm since moving over to iTerm a few months ago and I never really knew why I figured it was me or my trackpad was bad, but I believe it's a "feature" in iTerm that has gone wrong. There's a preference in iTerm called "Pressing a key removes selection" which may be related. I'll explain below...
Detailed steps to reproduce the problem:
- Have some text in your iTerm window
- Double-click on something and in the middle of your double-click press and hold down the CMD button (eg: in preparation for doing a CMD-C)
- iTerm will now de-select whatever it is you were trying to select.
What happened: iTerm will briefly select then de-select whatever it is you were trying to copy
What should have happened: iTerm should not de-select it, every single other application on OS-X works this way. I can replicate this over and over only on iTerm but not on any other OS-X application. This happens to me a lot because I work/live inside terminals managing servers, and I need to often grab IP addresses, or keys, or strings from servers to paste into emails/Slack/etc.
How I have to work around this: Instead of quickly navigating my way around my mac, whenever I have to go copy something from iTerm I have to be very patient and very intentional about selecting a block of text slowly, then let go of the mouse and hit CMD-C. This works, but it disturbs the natural flow of things.
If you need me to create some video to show you this I can do that. I think it's a timing-related bug, or related to this "feature" above about de-selecting when you press a key. I have tried disabling this feature and it doesn't change the situation.
Thanks!
