3.2.2 disables subpixel antialiasing on macOS 10.13 (and maybe earlier)
Thanks for filing an issue! Please answer the questions below so I can help you.
- iTerm2 version: 3.2.1, upgraded to 3.2.2
- OS version: 10.13.6
This is not a crash or hang, but a cosmetic issue (though a fairly important one).
For some reason, iTerm 3.2.2 disables subpixel anti-aliasing, even that is (hopefully) still supported on macOS before Mojave. This was without changing any settings. iTerm is being displayed on an external monitor, which isn't retina (far from it :).
Font looks like this with 3.2.1:
and it started to look like this with 3.2.2, no settings changed at all:
As far as I know, Metal rendering is on. It has automatically enabled that since the feature went in.
Detailed steps to reproduce the problem:
- Upgrade from 3.2.1 to 3.2.2
- Look at fonts, see they're no longer subpixel anti-aliased.
- Dread upgrading to Mojave, and postpone that as long as possible.
I'm rather unsure whether this is related at all to the other font issues that were mentioned.
