iTerm2 3.1beta3 is herky-jerky and blinky
Thanks for filing an issue! Please answer the questions below so I can help you.
- iTerm2 version: 3.1beta3
- OS version: 10.12.4
- Clear out preferences and Application Support first, so it's like a brand-new installation.
Detailed steps to reproduce the problem:
- Do
vim foo
, wherefoo
is a file with many more lines than fit in a default iTerm window. - Hold Ctrl-y until you get to the bottom.
- Hold Ctrl-u until you get to the top.
- Observe that, compared to iTerm2 3.0.15, and especially to Terminal.app, iTerm2 3.1beta3 doesn't scroll very smoothly. It's herky-jerky, and also kind of "blinky" (for lack of a better word).
What happened: Scrolling is not smooth. What should have happened: Scrolling should be smooth as silk, like in Terminal.app or in MacVim.
Also, in Vim, if you scroll a page at a time with Ctrl-F and back with Ctrl-B, it's like iTerm2 is choking. There's a longer-than-expected delay before it starts scrolling, and then it just winds up at the bottom (or top) of the document while not really showing any steps in between.
Vim is not the only context in which I notice this. The whole 3.1beta3 experience seems a little blinky and jerky. It has the appearance of trying to draw too many frames per second but choking.
I'm sorry to give such a vague report. Please let me know if I can help further.
