Setting Bash prompt PS1 to "(◕‿◕)" makes "ls" noticeably slower
Since I'm such a cheery guy, my Bash prompt is set to this happy-looking Unicode emote: (◕‿◕)
However, with the happy face Bash prompt enabled, I've noticed that common tasks like "ls" have a noticeable delay (250ms to 500ms?), but only after I've entered enough "ls" commands for the text output to fill iTerm2's screen height. Here's a picture of what I mean:
Up to this point, "ls" is quick and snappy. In the picture above, notice that a scrollbar has not appeared yet.
However, once there are enough "ls" commands to fill iTerm2's screen height, "ls" starts taking 250ms—500ms to respond:
In the picture above, notice that a scrollbar has appeared.
Machine information:
- iTerm2 version: Build 2.1.4
- OS version: OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.3
- Attach ~/Library/Preferences/com.googlecode.iterm2.plist here: com.googlecode.iterm2.plist
- Attach a debug log (https://iterm2.com/debuglog): debuglog.txt
Strangely, this delay does not occur on my other Mac (OS X Yosemite). I don't have access to this other Mac at the moment (it's at work), but for the sake of tracking down its iTerm2 version, I downloaded the iTerm2 binary on that computer near the end of October 2015.
Thanks in advance for the help! iTerm2 is a lovely app.
