Mouse-selecting text often misses first character

What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Click and hold down the mouse
- Drag right
- Let go
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expected the characters from where the press was to where it was released to have been selected.
Instead, very often, the character that the mouse was on is not selected. Selection seems to start at the next character. I can consciously work extra-hard to select the desired character by starting with the mouse over the left-most portion of that character.
Normally in iterm1 and other apps, the character under the mouse cursor is selected as well - by habit I position the mouse around the center of the character I want to start at.
The best way to clearly illustrate this is, use CTRL+WHEEL which is a general OS X accessibility shortcut to highly zoom on a letter "m". Position the cursor on the middle of that character and start selection. Repeat test in iTerm2 and in another mac app.
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
iTerm2 Build 0.20.20101130 on Mac OS X 10.6.5 Build 10H574
