Tmux pane dividers on remote machines use random characters

What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Open iTerm2 version Build 1.0.0.20130302
- ssh to remote machine (in this case Ubuntu Lucid 10.04.4 LTS)
- Start tmux session on remote machine (in this case tmux version 1.1)
- Create a pane
- Notice the characters used as a pane divider
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
- Expect to see "|" for vertical dividers, "-" as horizontal dividers, and "+" as the intersection between the two
- Instead see "x" as a vertical divider, "q" as a horizontal divider, "t" as the intersection between the two
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
- iTerm2 Build 1.0.0.20130302
- OS X 10.7.5
Please provide any additional information below.
- I'm not using built-in tmux integration
