Left Option doesn't send +Esc

What steps will reproduce the problem?
- cat (+ENTER)
- press alt+w
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
expecting ^[w
instead Ω
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
20121224 on OSX 10.8.2
Please provide any additional information below.
I'm running on a fresh iTerm2 configuration + only changed Left Option to +Esc.
Debugging the keys show me that iTerm doesn't seem to send the right modifier.. Unfortunately (for me) it looks like the same iTerm version on another 10.8.2 send the correct modifier..
