Detailed steps to reproduce the problem:
1. From the Window menu, select Save Window Arrangement
2. Enter some text, then the sequence Ctrl+Return, then some more text
3. Press the up and down arrow keys to verify multiple lines are present in the input field
4. Press OK
What happened:
The window arrangement is saved with the newline (which doesn't display in the menu item).
What should have happened:
It should not be possible to enter a newline character into the title.https://gitlab.com/gnachman/iterm2/-/issues/5189Script Editor changes target application name on compile/save2018-08-05T16:23:23ZErik PearsonScript Editor changes target application name on compile/saveI'm running iTerm 2 v3.0.10 on OSX ElCap 10.11.6. I'm not sure if this is an issue with iTerm2, as this issue is seen in the system Script Editor, but when editing applescripts in Script Editor, when compiling/saving, the target application name is changing from "iTerm2" to "iTerm". This is causing subsequent compilation/save attempts to fail. E.g.
Before compile/save:
```applescript
end tell
```
After compilation/save:
```applescript
If by "issue attachments" you mean attaching files to issues, GitHub _does_ in fact support this (see attached screenshot), whereas Gitlab does not (yes, there's an "attach a file" control on the new issue form, but it doesn't actually seem to work). Can Cmd-Doubleclick in the Paste History, Recent Directories and Command History append a newline?
This stops having to move to the keyboard to hit return and make things happen.
That would make Cmd-Alt-Doubleclick in the directory window insert a working command - cd, the value and \n.
I love iTerm!
I would like an it2ul to match it2dl. Even better would be it2edit (link to sublime?) which downloads the file, and when I save it then it automatically uploads it again (assuming I'm at the prompt and haven't logged out or am running something else at the moment.)
Unfortunately, I cannot use scp. So it2dl is very useful. But uploading is still hard and has to be done through a separate app. I have been managing this with cat << EOF > filename [Cmd-V] -- luckily I'm mostly dealing with text files. ;-)
Also, the new security "features" of Sierra shouldn't be blocking this, because it's not being launched from the Downloads folder. I moved the .zip into /Applications/foo and then unpacked it. I would think that subdirs of /Applications would be fair game.Feature Complete 3.1https://gitlab.com/gnachman/iterm2/-/issues/5174Iterm 2 Visor Bug2017-08-16T13:35:07ZGhost UserIterm 2 Visor BugThanks for filing an issue! Detailed steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Open Iterm Visor
2. Navigate to Fullscreen app (i.e. open web broswer, go fullscreen mode)
3. Use a set short cut to open iterm 2 visor while on fullscreen application.
4. Mac will switch to the main desktop open iterm 2, then it will immediately close.
What happened:
When opening iterm visor using a shortcut iterm 2 visor will open and then close itself when coming from a fullscreen app.
What should have happened:
While on a fullscreen app. Click iterm 2 shortcut. Mac will switch to iterm 2 and the visor will stay open.https://gitlab.com/gnachman/iterm2/-/issues/5173iTerm2 silently shadows (unused) global hotkeys - cannot resize with spectacle2019-04-18T01:24:48ZAdrien LamarqueiTerm2 silently shadows (unused) global hotkeys - cannot resize with spectacle* iTerm2 version: 3.0.10
Detailed steps to reproduce the problem:
1. Launch iTerm2
2. Launch Spectacle https://github.com/eczarny/spectacle
3. Try using a global hotkey from Spectacle to resize the iTerm window, say "left half". I use "cmd+alt+ctrl+left arrow" for that, but I had the same problem with Spectacle's default hotkey. I tried other things as well (see below).
What happened:
Nothing.
What should have happened:
The iTerm 2 windows should have been resized. iTerm is the sole app that doesn't behave with Spectacle. I have confirmed that Spectacle never receives the global hotkey event when iTerm2 has the focus in its handler function by watching Spectacle under a debugger, while it does receive the hotkey events under other apps (Finder, Chrome, etc.).
I tried several things, including:
- Resetting spectacle hotkeys to their default values
- Setting the corresponding hotkeys within iTerm2 preferences, with actions "Ignore", "Do Not Remap Modifiers" and "Remap modifiers in iTerm2 only". (None of my modifiers have ever been remapped, anyway.)
None of these steps had any effect whatsoever.
It is an extremely annoying behaviour from iTerm2 since it is the only app that does this.
Sometimes when I'm looking at logs and other things with really long lines I only care about the beginning of the line. In such cases, I would like to be able to truncate long lines, like Emacs does. That is to say, only so the line up the first 80 characters (or however wide the terminal is) and have a continuation marker so that I know it goes on farther. Ideally I could then scroll right/left to see other parts of the line(s), but most of the time just selecting the line and having it copy everything on that line (even if it's not visible) would be sufficient.
PS. iTerm2 is the coolest, I especially love the password manager+triggers. The very first item ends with a full stop, then the following items don’t, until we get to “Should the badge render in bold type”, then we go back to a simple title. Both “Right Margin” and “Top Margin” use title capitalization.
The next section on debugging ends each item with a full stop. After that there’s a few items that are missing full stops.
## <abbr title="What Would Apple Do?"><u>WWAD</u></abbr>?
The Apple HIG article, [Use the Right Capitalization Style in Labels and Text](https://developer.apple.com/library/content/documentation/UserExperience/Conceptual/OSXHIGuidelines/TerminologyWording.html#//apple_ref/doc/uid/20000957-CH15-SW4) suggests this:
| Element | Capitalization Style | Examples |
| ----------- | -------------------------- | ------------- |
| Labels that are not full sentences (for example, group box or list headings) | Title | Mouse Speed<br>Total Connection Time<br>Account Type |
| Options that are not strictly labels (for example, radio button or checkbox text),<br>even if they are not full sentences | Sentence | Checking for new software…<br>Are you sure you want to quit? |
## Some Proposals
* **Length:** List items should be succinct.
*Style like a subject line. Perhaps aim for a maximum title length, some of the items are especially long.*
* **Capitalization:** Use sentence capitalization throughout.
* **Question marks:** There are only three items presented as a question when many more could be.
*These items should be reworded and have the question marks removed.*
* **Message:** If further detail is needed, that goes on the “message” line which should end with a full stop.
This item could be looked at in particular:
> **When you press an arrow key or other function key that transmits the modifiers, should Option be translated to Meta?**
> If this is set to No then it will be translated to Alt.
The “subject” line is longer than the “message” line, most of that detail should go into the supplementary “message” line. As a very basic suggestion:
> **Translate Option key to Meta key**
> When you press an arrow key or other function key that transmits the modifiers, should Option be translated to Meta? If this is set to No then it will be translated to Alt.
The “subject” line describes the “what”, the “message” line tells us “why”.
If you’re okay with this I can create a PR with fixes for these and a few other things and then the specifics can be worked out.
I've been checking in on iTerm2 v3.x for a few months now and have to keep reverting back to 2.1.4 as 3.x has been missing a critical feature for me. The settings for "Draw bold text in bold font" and "Draw bold text in bright colors" do not seem to be working. Even if I turn them off and on and close and reopen iTerm I see no difference. I'm attaching 2 screen comparisons from awhile ago.
