not getting color output when using ssh

Detailed steps to reproduce the problem:
- ssh into my raspberry pi running Ubuntu 20.04
- run ls /
What happened: output is not in color
What should have happened: output should be in color. When I use Apple terminal or the 'Get Console' app on my iPhone, the output is in color
