Lock Terminal / Read-Only Mode

It would be nice to have the ability to temporarily "lock" a terminal or otherwise make it read-only.
I find myself wishing for this feature when monitoring a remote installation process that takes long enough that I'm doing other things but still have the terminal open to keep an eye on progress. What sometimes happens is that the installation terminal will unintentionally gain focus (for one reason or another) and I accidentally type a keystroke that interrupts or otherwise affects the installer. On more than one occasion I've thought focus was on a different terminal and hit CTRL-C, killing the installer.
