tmux integration does not properly relay utf-8 characters

What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Set up iTerm2+tmux from tmux-for-iTerm2-20120108.tar.gz on a linux host with C_ALL=en_US.UTF-8
- Optional, but my use case: Open irssi (configured with term_charset = utf-8)
- Enter German umlauts (ä, ö, ü, ß)
