Ctrl-A displays ^A instead of going to beginning of line

When I do the Ctrl A shortcuts, instead of going to the beginning of line, it displays ^A.

I'm using Mac Os X 10.7.2, iTerm 1.0.0.20111020 and the French keyboard disposition.

I've got some other issues with keyboard shortcuts to navigate in panes, I'll be posting some other bug reports.
