only last single character from CLI being executed, all others are erased in place

What steps will reproduce the problem?
- Downloaded version 1.0
- Opened up a new window
- typed in "ls -al"
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expected the results of "ls -al" in my home dir (never had this issue in Terminal.app), instead I see:
-bash: l: command not found
What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
1.0 (happens on the newest beta release too)
10.6.8
Please provide any additional information below.
Thought this could be due to my PS1 defintion in .profile so I commented it out and tried again, same problem. Cursor stays in place and each input char is overwritten by next incoming char, thus, only the last char in the command is actually evaluated.
