11.2 Platform retrospective
In this issue, we'll asynchronously retrospect on the 11.2 release, following the process described at https://about.gitlab.com/handbook/engineering/management/team-retrospectives/.
This issue is private (confidential) to the (soon to be defunct) Platform backend team and any product managers, frontenders, and designers that worked with the team during 11.2, to ensure everyone feels comfortable sharing freely. On August 27th, the day of the engineering-wide 11.2 Retrospective, the issue will be opened up to the public, as long as everyone is comfortable with this. You're free to redact any comments that contain information that you'd like to stay private before that date.
Please look at back at your experiences working on this release, ask yourself what went well this release?, what didn’t go well this release?, and what can we improve going forward?, and honestly describe your thoughts and feelings below. For each point you want to raise, please create a new discussion, so that others can weigh in with their perspectives, and so that we can easily discuss any follow-up action items. I will only be participating as a moderator.
If there is anything you are not comfortable sharing here, please message me or Tommy directly. Note, however, that 'Emotions are not only allowed in retrospectives, they should be encouraged', so we'd love to hear from you here if possible.
For reference:
I'm creating this issue super early because I'll be on vacation from July 30th until August 12th; if you already have something to add, please do, but if not, please come back after the 7th and write down some thoughts then! If this issue is empty by the time I come back on the 13th, I'll be very sad
